How LinkedIn has helped you in your careers or businesses:


LinkedIn has been an indispensable business development, career management, networking, and learning tool. It also makes our thought leadership and content creation available to our international network, and communicates our core values to our clients. It’s both local and global at the same time.
The more obvious layer is that most of our clients come from client referrals, which is wonderful, but of course they still want to learn about you first, and they do that by looking us up on LinkedIn. However, I love it for the non-transactional aspect – that people really do help each other and have meaningful professional conversations where we can learn from one another. I learn so much from those non-transactional conversations and have built valuable friendships over the years. It feels good to help each other!
Finally, in the field of Aerospace and Aviation, the rate of technological advancement and accomplishment is happening so fast. I use LinkedIn as a platform to crowdsource awareness about who is doing what
to keep up with the larger strategic moves between industry and government
and to connect with fellow industry leaders. Like a baseline. My experience on this platform has been largely positive and has reinforced for me that the world is full of really good people trying to solve the most difficult problems. We are finding each other to do that.

Tips on how to Thrive on LinkedIn:

I thrive by staying vigilant! While the platform is mostly good, there are some nefarious actors. I’m not afraid to report and block suspicious activity and profiles and zealous marketers. Beyond that, I try to stay on topic and on brand with my field of Aviation, Aerospace, Defense and Emerging Tech-and often where these subjects overlap. If nobody else is focused on it, I see an opportunity to widen the conversation. I also enjoy leading LinkedIn conversations about the effects of culture and leadership on company success and continue to build awareness around that. So many startups and their investors are hyper-focused on revenue but destroy their investments with toxic cultures and leadership styles. We want to help these companies succeed. They have to understand that how they treat their people is intrinsically linked to their revenue. My 4 rules for LinkedIn posting are part of brand-management:

1) DO publish content/posts relevant to our followers, communities, and constituencies of interest.

2) DO Share others’ posts that feature our work and activities. It’s important that if they are investing in you, invest back in them and help build their follower base. We love to promote the work of our clients, key contacts, and business partners and to celebrate their successes more than our own.

3) DON’T over-post or overshare. I probably publish a post 1-3 times a week. If I am at multiple work events or conferences, it might be more. Often times it’s less. See rule #1!

4) Finally, DON’T let any platform manage you. Unplug when you need to. If it feels like too much, it is. Like with any social media, don’t get sucked into unproductive conversations. Keep Zen.

I am so grateful to have a career where I get to help incredible, visionary people realize their dreams. It’s an honor to be a trusted partner in their journey. I’m an optimist who believes that human beings are limitless. I’ve also been called a “super-connector” for constantly bringing people together and convening groups to get things done. I try to help anyone I can, because there’s great satisfaction and professional happiness in that. If I can help one person with a simple conversation, it’s been a great day.

What I do:

I help public sector companies and U.S. institutional investors grow their businesses by helping them understand and navigate the maze of US government policies, decision-makers, regulations, cultures, case histories, and practices in space, defense, and emerging tech. There’s a lot of synergy among these 3 segments. I help my clients create meaningful, lasting partnerships with their customers and stakeholders, and I help them build great teams. Anything any of us ever achieves is thanks to a great team.

Why you should follow me on Linkedin:

I tend to post content and commentary that gives my followers make sense of “above the fold” issues and gets them discussing complex topics in a meaningful way. There are so many experts out there so it’s a great way to learn from my network and for my network to learn from each other. Ultimately, LinkedIn is about forging meaningful professional relationships and sharing ideas so we can leverage the collective talent around the most important challenges. I tend to post content that celebrates and champions good people and important discussions. There’s enough negativity and garbage in the world, we don’t need to amplify that. Instead, I try to amplify organizational progress and amplify messages from good people trying to do good things.

Who I follow on Linkedin

I tend to follow small to mid-size emerging space and tech companies on LinkedIn. I want to learn about their capabilities and spot the emerging trends when I analyze the market for my clients. There is so much exciting work going on right now, it’s very inspiring! As far as people, I love following Richard Branson – he’s an optimist who genuinely wants to save the planet and humanity, and that’s far more interesting than “I want to be a billionaire and that’s my exit strategy.” I follow Shelli Brunswick from Space Foundation because she’s a tireless leader and posts so much content from the Space community. I follow the fortune 100 companies too, especially my former company, Lockheed Martin. For over 100 years LM has been at the forefront of cutting space and defense technology and making the impossible happen (like landing on Mars!) I loved every second there and by following the company, I get to celebrate the achievements of my former colleagues who remain dear friends. I recommend following anyone and everyone who inspires YOU in YOUR career. Follow your customers or would-be customers. Follow people you find interesting. It’s very individual. Whatever you do, don’t follow people simply because others do. It’s important to break “group think” and march to your own drum beat. You’ll never be the greatest version of you if you’re copying everyone else. You can’t have FOMO if you’re prioritizing your own needs and interests.
